Business
Exxon Mobil Corporation is a leading integrated energy company engaged primarily in the exploration, production, transportation, and sale of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and petrochemicals. Its core product lines include upstream oil and gas operations with a focus on high-return, low-cost supplies; chemical products; specialty products such as lubricants and waxes; and innovations in lower-emissions technologies with an emphasis on carbon capture and storage, hydrogen production, advanced biofuels, and lithium. The company markets its products globally and operates significant resource bases across North America, including the United States and Canada, as well as internationally in regions such as the United Kingdom, Singapore, France, Australia, Belgium, and Germany. Founded in 1870 and headquartered in Spring, Texas, ExxonMobil maintains several subsidiaries and brands, including Esso, Mobil, and XTO. In recent developments, ExxonMobil completed its landmark acquisition of Pioneer Natural Resources in May 2024 for approximately $65 billion, significantly expanding its presence in the Permian Basin and more than doubling its oil production capacity in the region. This acquisition strengthens ExxonMobil’s upstream portfolio and advances its efforts to meet energy security and environmental goals by accelerating Pioneer’s net-zero emission targets from 2050 to 2035. Additionally, ExxonMobil launched a new wax product brand, Prowaxx™, in April 2024, enhancing its product differentiation in waxes used for diverse applications from candle making to industrial processes. The company is also actively expanding its low-carbon solutions, operating the world’s largest carbon capture and storage network with over 1,500 miles of pipelines in the U.S. Gulf Coast, capable of capturing more than 14 million tons of CO2 per year. ExxonMobil reported strong financial results in 2024, including earnings of $33.7 billion and operational cash flow exceeding $12 billion, underpinning its strategy of disciplined capital investments totaling $27.6 billion. The company continues to advance technology leadership through collaborations, such as a strategic alliance with Zeeco to develop ultra-low NOx, 100% hydrogen-ready burners aimed at reducing industrial emissions. ExxonMobil’s broad product portfolio, global resource base, and recent strategic acquisitions position it as a dominant player in the energy sector while progressively expanding into sustainable energy technologies and lower-emission fuel solutions.
